GLIAC announces indoor track & field athletes of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth weekly awards of the 2022-23 indoor track & field season. Grand Valley State athletes swept the awards with Myles Rhodes (men's track), Natalie Graber (women's track), Myles Kerner (men's field) and Emma Richards (women's field) receiving honors.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Myles Rhodes, Grand Valley State

Myles Rhodes was apart of the winning team of four in the men’s 4x400 relay on Friday as well as the winning squad in the DMR on Saturday. The 4x400 relay team took home first place with a time of 3:13.61 while the DMR finished first with a time of 9:48.44. Both finishes rank Grand Valley State as No. 1 on the National List in each respective event. In addition, Rhodes took home second place in the men’s 200m with a time of 22.11 and third place in the men’s 400m recording a time of 47.90.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Natalie Graber, Grand Valley State

Natalie Graber now claims her second GLIAC track athlete of the week award after placing first for the Lakers in the women’s 3000m run where she recorded a new personal-best time of 9:22.48, ranking her first on the National List for the 3000m. Graber was also apart of the record breaking DMR squad on Saturday. This group of four now ranks first on the National List with a new personal-best time of 11:18.68. Graber, O’Malley, Chapko and Zang are now the current recorder holders for the DMR in the GVSU school records, Kelly Family Sports Center records and The Big Meet records.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Myles Kerner, Grand Valley State

Myles Kerner had a big weekend at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday, as he broke three records within the men’s shot put invite. Kerner claimed a first-place finish with a new personal-best distance of 19.57m, making him the new record holder of the GVSU school record, the Kelly Family Sports Center record and the Big Meet record. Kerner held the previous school record of 19.29m while the Kelly and Big Meet record were held at a distance of 19.40m. Kerner’s first-place finish and 19.57m throw secured his spot on top of the National List.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Emma Richards, Grand Valley State

Emma Richards claims her third GLIAC field athlete of the week award this season after recording a new personal-best in the women’s shot put. Richards earned second place this past weekend for the Lakers in the shot put with a distance of 15.79m, surpassing her old record of 15.42m and ranking her second on the National List.
