GVSU's Droste and FSU's Idoni earn GLIAC women's basketball player of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced that Grand Valley State redshirt junior guard Ellie Droste has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Ferris State senior center Chloe Idoni received GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors following the opening weekend of the 2023-24 women's basketball season. 


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ellie Droste, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State guard Ellie Droste was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after the opening weekend of play. Droste helped the Lakers to a 2-0 start to the season, as she averaged 19.5 points, and scored the 1,000th point of her career. She tallied 15 points on 6-8 shooting in the season-opening victory over UMSL, then followed that up with 24 points on 10-18 from the field in Saturday’s win over Maryville. Also in that game, Droste became the 28th player in program history to score 1,000 career points.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chloe Idoni, Ferris State

Ferris State University senior center Chloe Idoni led the nation's 20th-ranked Bulldogs to an impressive regional sweep in FSU?s opening two games of the season this past weekend. Idoni tallied 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game in the Bulldogs' back-to-back wins over Missouri S&T and host McKendree in regional crossover action. The veteran standout notched a game-high 23 points with eight boards, four steals and a block on Friday in FSU's 80-46 season-opening win over Missouri S&T before coming back with 14 points, six rebounds, three steals and a block on Saturday in a 77-51 win over McKendree. For the weekend, she shot 61.5% from the floor for the Bulldogs.
