FSU's Blanchard and McCartney receive GLIAC women's basketball player of the week recognition

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced that Ferris State junior guard Kadyn Blanchard has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Ferris State senior guard Mallory McCartney has been recognized with GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors following Week 10 of the 2023-24 women's basketball season.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kadyn Blanchard, Ferris State

Ferris State University junior guard Kadyn Blanchard had a huge weekend for the nation's ninth-ranked Bulldogs as FSU swept West Michigan rivals Davenport and Grand Valley State in league play at Jim Wink Arena. Blanchard averaged a team-best 28.5 points along with 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in the two games, finishing with 57 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals on the weekend. The standout guard had a personal career-high and game-best 31 points with five boards, three assists and three steals in Thursday's dominating 92-52 win over DU before coming back to score 26 points with four rebounds on Saturday in a thrilling 71-65 victory over nationally top-ranked archival GVSU as the Bulldogs forged a tie atop the league standings. For the week, Blanchard shot 59.5% from the floor and made seven 3s, shooting 53.8% beyond the arc, to go with a perfect six-of-six (100%) showing at the charity stripe as FSU moved to 12-2 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mallory McCartney, Ferris State

Ferris State University senior guard Mallory McCartney had a big all-around effort for the nation's ninth-ranked Bulldogs over the weekend as FSU swept West Michigan rivals Davenport and Grand Valley State at Jim Wink Arena. McCartney tallied 25 points with 18 assists, seven rebounds and seven steals on the weekend, helping FSU improve to 12-2 overall and 6-1 atop the GLIAC standings. The veteran standout tallied 10 assists with five steals and two points in Thursday?s decisive 92-52 win over DU while playing only 24 minutes. On Saturday, she played all 40 minutes and came up with 23 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals in a FSU?s thrilling 71-65 win over the nationally top-ranked Lakers as FSU climbed into a tie atop the standings. McCartney made six 3s in the win over the Lakers while also playing a major defensive role in the backcourt for the entire 40 minutes of action against archival GVSU. Her play also helped the Bulldogs match the Lakers on the glass against a team that was outrebounding its opponents by nearly 14 per game this year.
