SAULT STE. MARIE - With a pair of home matches last weekend, the Lake Superior State volleyball team had a chance to lend a hand in the local community on Friday morning (Sep. 30), helping over 200 local families receive groceries through the Feeding America program, just hours prior to their match with Ashland that evening.

Players and coaches helped package groceries and distribute amongst families in need. Head coach Mallory Larranaga said of the opportunity to help those less fortunate in the community, "Being able to give our time to the community as a team is a win-win. Through serving one another we show our true character and work ethic; two of the most important things we stand for as a program. It was a beautiful, sunny day to make 212 families smile and we look forward to the next opportunity to lend a hand in our community."

Feeding America is a nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs that provides food and services to people each year. Together, they are the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief organization. Its network serves virtually every community in all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico.

Feeding America's mission is to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage the country in the fight to end hunger.

LSSU volleyball hits the road in each of the next two weekends but returns home to Cooper Gymnasium Oct. 21-22 with home matches against Walsh and Finlandia.
