GLIAC Honors Swimmers and Divers of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 3 of the 2021-22 swimming & diving season. Grand Valley State junior Roger Miret Sala (men's swimmer), junior Delaney Wihebrink (women's swimmer) and sophomore George Peuhl (men's diver) earned honors while Saginaw Valley State senior Libby Caird received GLIAC Women's Diver of the Week accolades for the second consecutive week. 


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Roger Miret Sala - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior Roger Miret Sala (Cleida, Spain) notched five first-place finishes and a second as the #5 Lakers recorded dual-meet wins over Saginaw Valley State (188-55) and Calvin University (157-67). Miret Sala finished first in the 200 free (1:38.70) and hit the NCAA DII B cut, while adding wins in the 100 back (49.31), 200 IM (1:58.91) and 200 back (1:53.67). In addition, Miret Sala was a part of two relays (200 medley and 400 free) that also hit the wall first.

WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Delaney Wihebrink - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior Dalaney Wihebrink (Warsaw, Ind.) recorded five first-place finishes and a second as the #6 Lakers posted dual-meet wins over Saginaw Valley State (159-84) and Calvin University (156.5-67). Wihebrink finished first in the 100 breast (1:01.31), 200 IM (2:13.43), 200 breast (2:22.28), second in the 100 back (1:01.31) and was a part of two relays (200 medley, 400 medley) that touched first.

MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: George Peuhl - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore diver George Peuhl (Sylvania, ohio) recorded three first-place finishes for the Lakers in dual-meet wins over Saginaw Valley State (188-55) and Calvin University (157-67). Peuhl tallied a pair of wins on the 3-meter board, followed by another first and a second on the 1-meter board.


WOMEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Libby Caird - Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley State's Libby Caird (Jenison, Mich.) qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships on Friday at GVSU, as she won the 1-meter dive with a score of 255.82 and the 3-meter dive with 276.82 points. Caird also won the diving events on Saturday against Findlay with scores of 249.05 in the 1-meter and 259.15 in the 3-meter event.
