GLIAC Recognizes Men's and Women's Swimmers and Divers of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 5 of the 2021-22 swimming & diving season. Grand Valley State freshman Jon Kantzenbach and sophomore Cyus Irwin swept the men's awards while Northern Michigan swimmer Heidi Billings and Wayne State diver Mikaela Senkus claimed the women's honors. 


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Jon Kantzenbach - Grand Valley State

Freshman Jon Kantzenbach (Wiesbaden, Germany) was named the GLIAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for his outstanding performances at Division I foes Oakland and Michigan. Kantzenbach tallied three first-place finishes and three third-place finishes, while also hitting two NCAA qualifying cuts. Kantzenbach finished first at Michigan in the 1000 free (9:14.17) and hit an NCAA mark, while his 500 free time at Oakland (4:30.66) also earned him a first-place finish and a NCAA cut. His time of 9:26.34 at Oakland in the 1000 free was good for a first-place finish, while he finished third in the 200 fly at Oakland (1:52.50) and the 500 free (4:39.01) at Michigan. Kantzenbach’s time at Michigan currently ranks second in the country.


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Heidi Billings - Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan's Heidi Billings (Fairbanks, Alaska) continues to dominate this year as she tallied up seven first place wins in a total of eight events over the weekend in dual meets versus Wayne State. Billings dominated in the women's backstroke events as she reached times of 57.59 in the women's 100-yard backstroke, 42.06 in the women's 75-yard backstroke, 2:02.09 for women's 200-yard backstroke, and 13.01 in the women's 25-yard backstroke.


MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Cyus Irwin - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore diver Cyus Irwin (Grandville, Mich.) was named the GLIAC Men’s Diver of the Week for his performances at Division I foes Oakland and Michigan. Irwin finished first on the 1-meter board at Oakland with an NCAA qualifying score of 302.25, and finished fourth on the 3-meter board with a score of 244.88. Irwin finished second at Michigan on the 1-meter board with a six-dive score of 251.10, followed by a fourth-place finish on the 3-meter board with a 217.13.


WOMEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Mikaela Senkus - Wayne State

Sophomore Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich.) won both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions in the Wayne State dual meet at Northern Michigan on Saturday morning. Senkus posted a score of 251.85 on the three-meter board, and followed that with a 255.15 on the one-meter board.
