GLIAC announces indoor track & field athletes of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its sixth weekly awards of the 2023-24 indoor track & field season. Saginaw Valley State swept the track awards, with Dominic Suliman and Alona Olshevska earning recognition while Grand Valley State received both field awards, with Myles Kerner and Alaina Omonode being honored. 


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Dominic Suliman, Saginaw Valley State

Dominic Suliman was the anchor of the SVSU DMR team that broke a forty-year-old record in the event after the final time of 9:48.71. It is Suliman’s first SVSU men’s indoor record of his career.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Alona Olshevska, Saginaw Valley State

Alona Olshevska broke her own record in the 400m with her event-winning time of 54.00 seconds. This is the second school record Olshevska has broken this season. She currently holds four SVSU women’s indoor track records.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Myles Kerner, Grand Valley State

Myles Kerner earns his second GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors in the 2024 season after taking on the men's shot put and weight throw at the GVSU Big Meet last weekend. Kerner won both events, throwing a distance of 19.38m in the men's shot put and a new personal-best of 20.45m in the men's weight throw. Kerner finds himself at the top of the USTFCCCA Top 25 List in the men's shot put and seventh in the men's weight throw. 


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Alaina Omonode, Grand Valley State

Alaina Omonode earns her second GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors this season after winning the women's weight throw at the GVSU Big Meet on both Friday and Saturday. Omonode threw a distance of 19.75m on Friday night, in addition to a 19.67m throw on Saturday. Omonode broke into the Top 3 on the USTFCCCA Top 25 list this weekend, jumping from eighth to third with her throw of 19.75m. Additionally, Omonode has now claimed five first-place finishes this year.
