GLIAC announces outdoor track & field athletes of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth weekly awards of the 2024 outdoor track & field season. Grand Valley State freshman Catherine Guckenberger (women's track), senior Eli Kosiba (men's field) and senior Margaret Stevenson (women's field) were honored in addition to Michigan Tech senior Sam Lange (men's track). 


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Sam Lange, Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech Track & Field junior Sam Lange has been named the GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career. Lange, a native of Washington, Illinois, continued his unbeaten season with a season’s best time in the 1,500m at the Phil Esten Challenge on Saturday, clocking an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 3:48.38. The win marked his fourth win of the outdoor campaign. 


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Catherine Guckenberger, Grand Valley State

Catherine Guckenberger earned her first GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors as a Grand Valley State Laker after competing in the 200m and 4x100m relay at the Al Owens Classic. Guckenberger finished in second place in the 200m recording a new personal-best time of 24.36 and first place in the 4x100m with a time of 46.71.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Eli Kosiba, Grand Valley State

Eli Kosiba earned his first GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors this outdoor season after finishing in first place in the men’s high jump at the Al Owens Classic. Kosiba cleared a height of 2.23m, a season best for him this year, in addition to, ranking him second overall in Division II. 


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Margaret Stevenson, Grand Valley State

Margaret Stevenson earned her first GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors in the 2024 outdoor season after recording two new personal bests at the Al Owens Classic. Stevenson finished in second place in the shot put invite with a throw of 15.25m and third place in the discus throw invite with a distance of 53.76m. Currently, Stevenson ranks fifth in the shot put and second in the discus throw within Division II.
