UWP's Nelson, DU's Grace Claim GLIAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its player of the week awards following week five of the women's basketball season. Parkside junior guard Alyssa Nelson earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Davenport junior guard Toni Grace captured South Division Player of the Week honors.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alyssa Nelson - Parkside 

"Parkside junior Alyssa Nelson has been on a tear recently, including two 20+ point performances that led the Rangers to two wins over Ashland this week. Across the two games, Nelson averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 steals on 16-of-24 (66.6-percent) shooting from the floor. She has now scored 20+ points in three straight games, and five times this year. The New Berlin, Wis. native ranks fifth in the GLIAC with a 56.9 field goal percentage, and is fifth in scoring with 19.1 points per game." 
  

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Toni Grace - Davenport

Toni Grace had a career weekend in a pair of wins over Lake Superior State. She reached the 20-point plateau for the ninth time in her career and second time this season with 25 points on Friday. She followed that up with a career-high 33 points on Saturday breaking her previous career-high of 30 points set against Hillsdale on Nov. 24, 2019. The 33 points is also tied for the eighth best in school history. Grace also had a well-rounded effort by totaling 10 rebounds, nine assists, and six steals in the two games. She shot 58.8 percent from the floor including 9-of-17 from behind the arc and also connected on 9-of-11 at the free throw line. She is now averaging 18.1 points per game which ranks sixth in the conference.
