GVSU's Shipley Wins Cavs Classic, GLIAC Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- Grand Valley State senior Gabrielle Shipley has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Golf Athlete of the Week after she took home medalist honors at the 2016 Cav Classic in leading the Lakers to an 8-stroke victory at Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio.

Highlights: The Grand Valley State women's golf team claimed top honors at the 2016 Cav Classic in Canton, Ohio with a 36-hole 606, highlighted with individual medalist honors for senior Gabrielle Shipley as she shot a -3 141 (71-70-141). Findlay was second with a 614 and Ashland third with a 627. The Laker women have now won seven tournaments on the year and Shipley has carded three individual titles. 

Shipley earned GLIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week honors for the fourth time during the 2015-16 season.

Grand Valley State used a balanced attack with four finishing among the top eight. Following Schipley's title, Samantha MossAlex Taylor and Julie Guckian each shot identical 36-hole scores of 155. All three went 79-76-155 (+12) during the two-day event. Alex Amos finished tied for 25th with  a 163 (82-81). 

"The ladies rebounded well after their opening round of 308 with a solid performance today," said head coach Rebecca Mailloux. "Their ball striking was very good and they had a much better feel for the greens. We are very happy to have our seventh win of the season as a team."
