GVSU's Mencotti Named D2 CCA Women's Soccer Midwest Region Player of the Year

Grand Valley's Mencotti named Midwest Region Player of the Year; Lakers have eight named all-region

ROLLA, Mo. – Grand Valley State's Gabriella Mencotti has been named the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) Midwest Region Player of the Year as selected by the region's sports information directors.
Grand Valley State, the three time defending national champions, had a total of eight players earn all-region honors while Rockhurst had four players earn all-region honors. Bellarmine and Truman State each had three selections.

Mencotti, a junior forward from Novi, Mich., is the leading scorer in Division II this season tallying 28 goals and 10 assists for a total of 66 points. She is averaging 3.00 points per game and is tied for second in the country in game-winning goals with eight. She has eight multi-goal games this season and has scored 16 goals in her last 10 games. Mencotti is a three-time first team All-GLIAC and two-time first team All-Midwest Region selection.

Joining Mencotti on the first team are Grand Valley's Jayma Martin (F), Kendra Stauffer (F), Marti Corby (MF), Shannon Quinn (D) and Clare Carlson (D)
; Truman's Caity Schmitt (D) and Katie Mattingly (GK); Bellarmine's Lauren Holder (MF); McKendree's Sydnee Carroll (F); Rockhurst's Jessica Smelcer (D); Ursuline's Jill Bohling (MF) and Walsh's Brianna Sanborn.

The second team is comprised of Rockhurst's Ali Wallner (GK), Courtney Silberberg (MF), Meghan Killkenny (MF), Kristin Wolff (MF) and Kaley Nieters (F); Bellarmine's Mary Beth Gorham (F) and Hannah Poteet (GK); Grand Valley's Erika Bradfield (D) and Dani Johnson (MF); Davis & Elkin's Katrina Giantsopoulos (F) and Asheli Freed (D); Trevecca Nazarene's Chelsey Russom (MF) and Liz Denton (GK); Ferris State's Grace Kraft (GK); Walsh's Sarah Berger (D); Truman State's Laura Ney (D); Malone's Brianna Smith (MF); Ashland's Deijah Swihart (F) and Quincy's Natalie Quisenberry (D).

All 13 first-team All-Region selections will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America Consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released on Wednesday, November 30. The complete Division II CCA Midwest Region teams can be found on the following page.

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
