GVSU's Corby, Mencotti & Carlson Earn NSCAA All-America Accolades

KANSAS CITY -- Grand Valley State's junior midfielder Marti Corby and junior forward Gabriella Mencotti have been selected to the 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA Division II Women's All-America First Team, while their teammate senior defender Clare Carlson was named to the Second Team. The Lakers are on the verge of their fourth consecutive national championship with the title match taking place on Saturday (Dec. 3) vs. Western Washington in Kansas City.

Corby, a native of Ada, Michigan, is marking her fourth consecutive season as an NSCAA All-American, and became just the second two-time NSCAA Player of the Year award recipient at this point last season. She ranks third all time in points at Grand Valley State, with 179, is the all-time program leader in assists, with 61, and is fourth in goals, with 59 in her career. She has dished out a nation-leading 24 assists this season, and has scored three goals, including two game-winning goals, throught the earlier stages of the NCAA Tournament. 

Mencotti makes her first appearance as an NSCAA All-American, joining Corby on the First Team. An obvious choice for the highest national recognition, the Novi native leads the nation in goals this season, with 29, and has amassed 69 points in total, also the best in Division II. Her breakout campaign has included eight multi-goal games and two games in which she scored four or more goals. She was recently named as the D2CCA Player of the Year and figures to be in contention for the NSCAA Player of the Year as well. 

Carlson, also a native of Ada, makes her second straight appearance as an NSCAA All-American, securing Second Team honors for her work on the Laker backline. Most recently, she was named a D2CCA ll-American First Team selection, marking her second straight All-American selection on that team as well.
