WSU's Spicer and PNW's Raslan honored as GLIAC Tennis Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its 10th weekly tennis awards for the 2024 campaign. Wayne State graduate student Dom Spicer earned GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week accolades, while Purdue Northwest sophomore Salma Raslan received GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors.


MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dom Spicer, Wayne State

Wayne State University graduate student Dom Spicer began GLIAC action for the Warriors with a 2-0 mark in both singles and doubles against Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech. In WSU's 6-1 victory over the Lakers this past Friday, Spicer claimed a 6-2, 6-3 triumph vs. Driss Sedrati at the third flight. Prior to that, he and Luke Laws teamed up for a 6-4 doubles win over Sedrati and Jordi Fraile Raton. Spicer put in another strong effort the following day vs. the Huskies, as the grad student secured set wins of 6-4 and 6-3 to down Leon Sell at the No. 3 spot on Saturday. Spicer and Laws defeated Eli Pinnoo and Landon Coates in doubles by a 6-2 margin to help the Warriors to their fourth 7-0 shutout of the season. With the triumphs, Spicer improved to 11-5 in doubles, all from the No. 2 position, and an even 7-7 in singles. It's his fifth time being named GLIAC Player of the Week in his five-year collegiate career and first since the 2022 campaign.


WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Salma Raslan, Purdue Northwest

Purdue Northwest’s Salma Raslan earned a big GLIAC win in singles over the weekend defeating Saginaw Valley States Amelia Dickson in a highly competitive match 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. She also earned a doubles win with her partner Oona Kintscher defeating Elizabeth Stewart and Amelia Dickon 6-4. These wins played a big part in the Pride tallying a 4-3 team win over the Cardinals.
