GVSU's Mach, NMU's Smith Earn GLIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 3 of the 2017 cross country season. Northern Michigan sophomore Katelyn Smith captured GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors on the women's side, while Grand Valley State senior Wuoi Mach garnered the men's award after both finished as the top D2 runners at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Katelyn Smith, Northern Michigan

In a field of over 300 runners at the Spartan Invitational, Northern Michigan sophomore Katelyn Smith finished as the top NCAA Division II runner earning a top-10 finish in the process. Smith's time of 22 minutes, two seconds in the meet was over a minute and a half better than finish in the same event a year ago.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Wuoi Mach, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior Wuoi Mach was the top NCAA Division II finisher at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., finishing third overall with a time of 24:57.8 overall on Friday. The Lakers had three runners finish in the Top-10.
