BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 7 of the 2017 cross country season. Saginaw Valley State sophomore Laura Estrada captured GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors on the women's side, while Saginaw Valley State sophomore Kavi Kulkarni garnered the men's award.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Laura Estrada, Saginaw Valley
Saginaw Valley State sophomore Laura Estrada earned the top runner spot for the Cardinals with a 32nd finish at the Jayhawk Invitational this weekend in Muskegon, Mich. Estrada ran well individually, with a season best 5k time of 19:49.55.
MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Kavi Kulkarni, Saginaw Valley
Saginaw Valley State sophomore Kavi Kulkarni placed 20th at the Jayhawk Invitational this past weekend and was the top runner for the Cardinals. Kulkarni beat his 8k personal record of 27:21.3 by almost a minute, running a 26:28.58. The SVSU Men's Cross Country team competed well during Friday's race, finishing sixth over 16 schools that competed in the Invitational.
