MEN'S RACE

Tiffin's James Ngandu capped off a storied cross country career by winning the 2017 NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Championship completing the Angel Mounds course in 30:18.8, outdistancing Grand Valley State's Zach Panning who finished runner-up by 34 seconds. Reigning GLIAC Freshman of the Year, GVSU's Enael Woldemichael finished sixth in a time of 31:07.0, while his teammate Wuoi Mach placed 11th to lift the Lakers to a national runner-up finish with 64 points, 20 points behind Adams State who took home top team honors.

Individually, Ferris State's Trevor Holowaty finished in 127th place with a time of 33:22.6 in the 249-participant field.

WOMEN'S RACE

The Grand Valley State women finished in sixth place with 185 points as senior Kelly Haubert led the Lakers with a sixth place showing of her own running the course in 21:05.1. Sophomore Allie Ludge ran 35th, while Gina Patterson ended up 39th with Megan Caltagirone placing 48th. Adams State took home the national crown with a 126 point total.

Northern Michigan recorded a 13th place finish thanks to a 26th place finish from senior Kameron Burmeister who completed the track in 21:33.7. Sophomore Katelyn Smith (56th) and Vivian Hett (88th) both record Top 100 finishes for the Wildcats.

Alaska Anchorage's Caroline Kurgat claimed individual honors with a time of 20:32.3, nearly 20 seconds in front of her nearest competitor.
