GLIAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Week 6

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the sixth GLIAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards for the indoor season. For the men, Grand Valley State senior Ethan Barnes earned GLIAC Runner of the Week, while Hillsdale sophomore Jared Schipper collected GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades after an automatic mark in the pole vault. Hillsdale senior Emily Oren earned GLIAC Runner of the Week on the women's side and Grand Valley State senior pole vaulter Jaime Roberts was awarded GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors.

Ethan Barnes
Grand Valley State 800 meters Sr.

Highlights: Competing at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational, GVSU senior Ethan Barnes placed fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:49.51, giving him an NCAA Provisional qualifying standard. A USTFCCCA All-American in the event during the 2015 indoor season, Barnes’ time puts him at the top of the conference and number two in the country for Division II.

Jared Schipper
Hillsdale Pole Vault So.

Highlights: Hillsdale sophomore Jared Schipper broke his own school record in the pole vault Friday night at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic. He cleared 5.15 meters, which was good for second place in the meet, and currently stands as the No. 4 mark in NCAA Division II. Schipper was the Division II indoor national runner-up in this event last year.

GLIAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Week 6

Emily Oren
Hillsdale Mile/800 meters Sr.

Highlights: Hillsdale senior Emily Oren picked up a pair of first places at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic over the weekend. She broke a four-year-old school record in the mile run Friday night, winning with a time of 4:45.13. She followed that up with a victory in Saturday’s 800 meter run finals, recording a time of 2:11.18. She’s currently ranked in the NCAA’s top four in both of those events.

Ranks: Mile: No. 1 NCAA - NCAA Automatic Mark; 800 meters: No. 4 NCAA - NCAA Automatic Mark

Jaime Roberts Grand Valley State Pole Vault Sr.

Highlights: GVSU senior Jaime Roberts competed in the pole vault at the Hillsdale Wide Meet Classic and placed first with a mark of 4.10m (13’ 5.25’’). The vault gave her an automatic qualifying standard as well as the top mark in Division II.
