WOMEN'S RANKINGS – Ever heard of the saying “the rich get richer?” That can be applied to Grand Valley State this week.
Despite already being ranked first, the Lakers gained a little bit of ground in the newest NCAA Division II Cross Country Women’s National Coaches’ Poll, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday, as the Lakers now own all eight first-place votes.
The Lakers put together an impressive performance at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational this past weekend, finishing ahead of eight other NCAA Division II teams, as well as four NCAA Division I teams. Gina Patterson led the way for the Lakers, finishing 12th overall (and third by an NCAA Division II athlete) with a time of 11:43.7. Northern Michigan is the other conference team inside the Top 25 ringing in at No. 19.
MEN'S RANKINGS – The regular powerhouses headlined the rankings once again, as Adams State, Grand Valley State, Colorado Mines and Chico State held onto the top-four spots.
The GVSU men's team ran the 8,000 meter race at the MSU Spartan Invitational and had three runners finish in the top-25, with Senior Wuoi Mach taking fourth place with a time of 24:57.8, freshman Enael Woldemichael crossed the finish line in 25:10.9 for a sixth place finish and senior Brady Selner finished 11th (25:29.8). Junior Sean Fontana came in 23rd (25:56.8) followed by a 26th place finish from sophomore Jacob Domagalski (26:02.0), as the final scorer for the Lakers.
