SVSU's Jatczak and Parkside's Schulist honored with weekly GLIAC baseball awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its 11th weekly baseball awards of the 2024 baseball season. Saginaw Valley State senior infielder Hayden Jatczak was honored as GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week, while Parkside junior southpaw Kaleb Schulist received GLIAC Pitcher of the Week recognition.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hayden Jatczak, Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley State University senior Hayden Jatczak had an impressive week at the plate. Going 14-for-19 with three doubles, a triple, and three home runs while scoring eight runs and driving in nine helped the Cardinals to four wins in five games with three of them coming against Grand Valley State to clinch a share of the GLIAC regular season championship. The Bay City native also tied the single season home run record for Saginaw Valley when he hit two bombs in the final game of the weekend for 14 on the year. Jatczak batted an astonishing .737 with four walks and a hit-by-pitch for an on-base percentage of .792. He slugged a massive 1.474 for an on-base plus slugging of 2.266.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Kaleb Schulist, Parkside

After his first career complete-game shutout, Kaleb Schulist was honored as the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week. This is not only the first time Schulist has won the award, but he also becomes the first Parkside pitcher to receive the honor this season. Schulist was nothing short of dominant in his start against Purdue Northwest on Saturday. Honored during the pregame ceremony for Senior Day, he made the most of his big day. En route to a 4-0 victory over the Pride, Schulist pitched all seven innings. He held the Pride to just five hits in the game and struck out five hitters in the process. Schulist improved to 5-2 overall this season. Additionally, the Rangers swept the Pride for their first-ever GLIAC regular-season sweep.
