SVSU's Jatczak and GVSU's Rutkowski awarded weekly GLIAC baseball honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its ninth weekly baseball awards of the 2024 baseball season. Saginaw Valley State senior infielder Hayden Jatczak was honored as GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week, while Grand Valley State senior right-hander Nick Rutkowski was selected as GLIAC Pitcher of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hayden Jatczak, Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley senior Hayden Jatczak earned his second GLIAC Player of the Week honors as he batted .500 going 11-for-22 with eight walks in the six games for the Cardinals this week. The Bay City native helped SVSU to five wins as he scored 11 runs and drove in nine while hitting two doubles and three home runs. Jatczak’s presence was respected by opposing pitching as he was intentionally walked three times, all of them after seeing multiple pitches in the at-bat. Jatczak has continued his dominance at the plate and nears multiple single-season records for SVSU while fighting for a top-five spot in batting average in the nation.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Nick Rutkowski, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior RHP Nick Rutkowski tossed 8.2 innings of shutout baseball en route to improving his season record to 5-2. Rutkowski allowed six hits and struck out five as the Lakers claimed a 3-0 win over Purdue Northwest. Rutkowski, who leads the GLIAC in ERA (2.29) picked up the 18th win of his career.
