DU's Tchavdarov, WSU's Kilander receive GLIAC baseball weekly awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fifth weekly baseball awards of the 2024 baseball season. Davenport redshirt junior outfielder Michael Tchavdarov earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week recognition, while Wayne State junior right-hander Griffin Kilander was named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Michael Tchavdarov, Davenport

Michael Tchavdarov, a redshirt junior from Warren, Mich., had his second three-hit game of the season on Sunday in a 10-8 win over No. 17 Ashland. He scored the tying run in the ninth inning and then drove in the winning run in the 10th inning with a RBI single. He hit safely in all three games of the weekend series against the Eagles and also hit a solo home run on Saturday which tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning. He currently ranks second on the team with 13 RBI.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Griffin Kilander, Wayne State

Griffin Kilander was named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season and second time in his career on Monday.  Kilander went the distance in a 4-0 win over Purdue Northwest on Thursday in Auburndale, Fla. while striking out 14 batters, tied for the most by a Warrior in the last 23 years.  Kilander (4-0 record) didn't surrender a hit until one out down in the eighth inning, didn't walk a single batter and faced just one batter over the minimum.
