GLIAC Football Players of the Week - Week 8

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its weekly awards following Week 8 action. Ohio Dominican redshirt sophomore running back Darryl Johnson earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Ferris State senior defensive lineman Justin Zimmer garnered GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week distinction. Grand Valley State senior punter Jamie Potts captured GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.

GLIAC Football Players of the Week - Week 8
Offense
Darryl Johnson	Ohio Dominican	RB	R-So.
Highlights: Johnson scored a school record six touchdowns (five rushing, one receiving) on just 15 touches in road win over Quincy. Johnson's five rushing touchdowns are also a school record and are second most by a Division II player this season. Johnson helped Ohio Dominican score a school record 73 points. He averaged 7.6 yards per carry going for 107 yards on 14 carries. Caught a 39-yard touchdown pass and scored on a 49 yard run as part of his big plays.
Defense
Justin Zimmer	Ferris State	DL	Sr.
Highlights: Zimmer recorded a game and personal career-high 19 tackles, including seven solo stops in a 24-14 win for the No. 4 Bulldogs over No. 17 Michigan Tech. Zimmer also posted six tackles for loss (-22 yards) along with 2.5 sacks (-15 yards), two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and five quarterback hurries. His play helped the Bulldog defense limit MTU to only 273 yards, including only 59 yards in the second half. The defensive play was critical as the Bulldog offense turned the ball over four times and was also stopped twice inside the MTU five-yard line on fourth down in the game.

Highlights: Potts averaged 43.7 yards on three punts, dropping one inside the 20 yard line and raced 60 yards for a touchdown on a fake punt. In addition, Potts caught six passes for 150 yards and two more touchdowns.
