GVSU's DeLong and WSU's Vestman receive GLIAC Golfer of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its second weekly men's and women's golf awards of the 2023 spring season. Grand Valley State sophomore Charles DeLong was selected as men's golfer of the week while Wayne State junior Beca Vestman earned women's golfer of the week recognition.


MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Charles DeLong, Grand Valley State

For the eighth time in his career, Grand Valley sophomore Charles DeLong was named the GLIAC Golfer of the Week. DeLong helped lead the Lakers to a win at the Hargett Memorial Invite down in North Carolina this past week, where he claimed the individual crown. DeLong shot rounds of 69, 69, and 68 to post a -10 for the tournament, winning by five strokes. This was DeLong’s 10th career win and the fourth win of the 2022-23 season. DeLong is ranked as the number two golfer by Golfstat in their latest individual rankings.


WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Beca Vestman, Wayne State

Junior Beca Vestman was named GLIAC Golfer of the Week for the first time in her career on Thursday. This past week, Vestman tied for second, the highest finish of her career, out of 100 golfers at the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational. The Madrid, Spain native shot an eight-over 152 (79-73) improving her score by six strokes and standing by nine spots on day two of the tournament.
