FSU's Waller, WSU's Spicer Earn GLIAC Tennis Player of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its first tennis weekly awards for the 2021 campaign. Ferris State sophomore Morgan Waller earned Women's Player of the Week, while Wayne State sophomore Dominic Spicer was awarded Men's Player of the Week. 


WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Morgan Waller - Ferris State 

Ferris State University sophomore Morgan Waller had a big weekend for the Bulldogs, who opened GLIAC play with a perfect 2-0 start and ran their winning streak to seven consecutive contests. Waller posted a perfect 4-0 mark on the weekend, including back-to-back wins at number one singles. On Friday, she was a straight-set winner at #1 singles in FSU's impressive 6-1 league-opening home triumph over nationally 23rd-ranked Wayne State. She also teamed up with Sam Stephenson at two doubles where the duo fought back from a 3-0 deficit to win 6-3. On Saturday, she was a decisive 6-1, 6-1 winner at the top singles spot and garnered a 6-2 win at two doubles with Stephenson. Waller's play has helped FSU vault into the national rankings at #24 this year and lifted FSU to a 7-1 start to the season.

MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dominic Spicer - Wayne State

After primarily playing No. 4 singles and second doubles a season ago, sophomore Dom Spicer (London, England) moved to the top flight in both singles and doubles this season. In the opening weekend of GLIAC play, Spicer compiled a 4-0 mark.  He won at first singles against Ferris State's Mathis Guerre (7-6, 6-2) and Grand Valley State's Martin Matov (6-2, 6-7, 6-2). Spicer teamed with Luke Laws for a pair of victories at No. 1 doubles.  The Warrior duo won 6-4 at Ferris State and 7-5 at Grand Valley State.
