FSU's Guerre, WSU's Liong  Claim GLIAC Tennis Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth tennis weekly awards for the 2021 campaign. Wayne State senior Linda Liong was selected Women's Tennis Player of the Week,  while Ferris State senior Mathis Guerre was awarded Men's Tennis Player of the Week. 


WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Linda Liong  - Wayne State

Wayne State went 3-0 last week with wins at Ashland on Saturday, vs. Michigan Tech in Midland on Sunday, and at Lake Superior on Monday).  The Warriors were led by senior Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia), who won all three No. 1 singles matches only losing 11 games in the six sets.  She teamed with Laura Cazacu for a 3-0 mark at first doubles as the tandem won 18 of 22 games.  This is Liong's first year playing at No. 1 singles, and second year at first doubles.

MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mathis Guerre  - Ferris State

Ferris State University men's tennis standout Mathis Guerre led the Bulldogs to a pair of shutout victories over the weekend as FSU returned to action at the Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids. Guerre went 4-0 for the weekend with two wins in doubles play at the number one flight and two in singles action at the top spot in the Bulldog lineup. Both singles wins came in straight-sets. Guerre's play helped FSU improve to 10-0 and atop the GLIAC standings with a perfect 5-0 conference record. It also gave the Bulldogs a perfect 6-0 home record this year.
