WSU's Ruyssen honored as GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year; All-GLIAC teams announced

MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2024 All-GLIAC Women's Tennis Team on Friday following the opening matches of the conference tournament at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.

Wayne State's Anais Ruyssen was named GLIAC Player of the Year, Grand Valley State's Vale Mozas received the GLIAC Freshman of the Year award and Ferris State earned GLIAC Coaching Staff of the Year recognition. Purdue Northwest's Sienna Lopez was honored as the inaugural recipient of the GLIAC Women's Tennis Sportsmanship Award.

2024 GLIAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Anais Ruyssen, Wayne State

Wayne State University redshirt junior Anais Ruyssen was named GLIAC Player of the Year for the second time in the last three seasons (2022) following a stellar 2024 campaign in both singles and doubles.  Ruyssen, ranked top 40 in all but one of the national rankings this spring by the ITA, played at the first flight in each match she competed in within the category and totaled a 14-5 record against every program's best player.  The Warrior tallied three victories over nationally ranked rivals this spring, including a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over the No. 20-ranked Si Karlsson Hantzis of Palm Beach Atlantic and a pair of wins over the No. 45-ranked Diane Flament of Indianapolis.  She concluded league play with a spotless 6-0 mark.  In doubles, Ruyssen went 14-6, including a 13-6 ledger with her usual partner Marta Komar at the No. 1 position.  The highlight in doubles for the top 20-ranked tandem was a 7-5 triumph against Columbus State's fifth-ranked Nikoline Gullacksen and Mariana Ramirez during the ITA Women's National Indoor Championships in Kearney, Neb.  It's the fifth time since 2002 a Warrior has been recognized with this honor.

2024 GLIAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Vale Mozas, Grand Valley State

Vale Mozas has been named the GLIAC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Year. Mozas has posted a 12-2 record in singles action including a 5-1 record in conference play. She posted seven wins at No. 6 singles and a 4-0 record at No. 5 singles. Mozas went 13-6 in doubles action this season with 12 wins at No. 3 doubles and one win at the top doubles position. Mozas becomes just the second Laker in program history to be named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year.

2024 GLIAC COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR
Ferris State

The Ferris State women's tennis program clinched the number two seed for the league's postseason tournament and finished as the GLIAC runner-up in regular-season play under head coach Mark Doren. The Bulldogs missed the conference tournament a year ago, but climbed up the standings this spring to earn a first-round bye. Ferris State's lone setback in league play came to nationally-ranked Wayne State in conference action on the road. FSU, which is among the Midwest Region's top eight squads and in line for a potential spot in the NCAA Tournament, has won eight of its last nine outings to date and owns a 12-8 overall record along with a 6-1 league mark. Ferris State also posted a 9-2 record at home this year inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
