NMU's Smith, DU's Corstange and FSU's Maat earn GLIAC Player of the Week recognition

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following week two of the 2022 volleyball season. Northern Michigan sophomore outside hitter Jacqueline Smith was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Davenport senior libero Kenzy Corstange was honored as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week and Ferris State sophomore setter Kaylee Maat received GLIAC Setter of the Week recognition. 


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jacqueline Smith, Northern Michigan

Throughout the Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament, Smith has had 71 kills, averaging 4.44 per set. She also posted seven aces. She claimed 50 digs with 3.13 Dig/S. Throughout the tournament, she earned 80 points for the ‘Cats. She is currently leading the GLIAC in Kills per Set (4.18) as well as Kills (138).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kenzy Corstange, Davenport

Senior libero, Kenzy Corstange, garnered the first GLIAC weekly honor of her career on Tuesday as she was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Corstange racked up 77 digs (5.9 per set) while leading Davenport to a 4-0 week and seven-match winning streak, which is tied for the program's longest since 2014. For the season, the Richland, Mich. native now ranks second in the league for both total digs (134) and digs per set (4.8).


SETTER OF THE WEEK - Kaylee Maat, Ferris State

Ferris State University sophomore setter Kaylee Maat earned all-tournament team honors for the Bulldogs at the Hillsdale Invitational, leading FSU to a pair of big wins to close out the event. Maat totaled 167 assists on the weekend, averaging 11.13 assists per set, while also compiling 38 digs, six service aces, six blocks and six kills in 15 total frames. She produced 39 assists or more in all four matches, including 41 in FSU?s 3-1 triumph on Friday over 14th-ranked Colorado Mines along with 39 more on Saturday in a 3-0 sweep over Missouri S&T, which had been receiving votes in the national poll. Maat also finished with 11 digs or more in three of the four outings and netted three service aces in the final match of the weekend as FSU recorded back-to-back victories to close out the event.
