Parkside's Irvin and Harris, WSU's Dulgar earn GLIAC volleyball player of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 8 of the 2023 volleyball season. Parkside Rangers earned GLIAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week accolades, with senior outside hitter Ava Irvin receiving GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and Natalie Harris selected as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Wayne State freshman setter Kayla Dulgar was recognized as GLIAC Setter of the Week for the second consecutive week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Ava Irvin, Parkside

Ava Irvin was on an absolute tear, tallying 21 kills in each of the two games. Coming off a career weekend in the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament, Ava picked up right where she left off. First, she notched 21 kills and swung (.288) in the win against Davenport. Against Lake Superior State, she racked up 21 kills yet again. Irvin was lights out on Saturday, finishing with a (.372) attack percentage in the four-set win. She has now reached the 20-kill mark four times in her sophomore season and leads the team by a significant margin.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Natalie Harris

Natalie Harris has been the catalyst for the Rangers all season on the defensive side. As just a freshman, Natalie leads the team with digs and led the way once again over the weekend. First, she posted a 24-dig performance against Davenport, and then tallied 14 more against Lake Superior State. In both games, Parkside held teams to an attack percentage under (.200), and a lot of credit is due to Parkside’s freshman Natalie Harris.

SETTER OF THE WEEK - Kayla Dulgar, Wayne State

Freshman Kayla Dulgar (Warsaw, Ohio / River View) was named GLIAC Setter of the Week for the second week in a row on Monday.  The most-recent honor comes after Dulgar racked up a total of 84 assists (10.5 per set) while leading Wayne State to a 2-0 record in league play.  The 5-9 floor general also accounted for seven kills (only one error), six service aces, 13 digs and three total blocks.
