GVSU's Coble earns GLIAC Men's Golf Player of the Year honors; all-conference teams revealed

GLIAC — Grand Valley State's Drew Coble has been named 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf Player of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, May 8.

Ferris State's McCoy Biagoli earned GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors.

Ferris State head coach Sam Stark received conference coach of the year after leading the Bulldogs to the 2024 GLIAC Championship.

2024 GLIAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Drew Coble, Grand Valley State

GVSU’s Drew Coble has been named the GLIAC men’s Golfer of the Year. Coble earned three individual victories this year, one in the fall and two more in the spring, while finishing in the top ten four more times. The top-ranked player in the Midwest region is up to number three nationally. He shot 24 rounds of 72 or better, with 11 rounds in the 60s, carding a low round of 67 six times, earning an average score of 70 per round. Coble helped lead the Lakers to six tournament titles this year and the top seed in this week’s NCAA Regionals.


2024 GLIAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
McCoy Biagoli, Ferris State

Ferris State University freshman men’s golfer McCoy Biagioli has had a strong rookie season for the Bulldogs, who captured the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship this spring and earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament. Biagioli has posted a 72.6 adjusted average over 31 total rounds, ranking among the region’s top 30 individual players as a rookie. The FSU freshman placed 13th overall in stroke place at the conference championships and won both of his matches in head-to-head medal match play during the league semifinals and finals as Ferris State captured the school’s 22nd all-time league title. Individually, Biagioli had a runner-up individual finish at the B&R Investments Bulldog Fall Classic hosted by FSU and posted five top-10 finishes this year. His play helped Ferris State earn the school’s 19th NCAA Tournament berth in the last 21 years this spring. His play this year helped the Bulldogs place among the top three teams in tournament action 10 times, including a trio of first-place team finishes.

2024 GLIAC COACH OF THE YEAR
Sam Stark, Ferris State

Ferris State University head coach Sam Stark led the Bulldog men’s golf team to the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship this spring and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Under Stark’s direction, the Bulldogs captured the program’s 22nd all-time league championship in April by beating rival Grand Valley State in the head-to-head medal match round in Augusta. FSU also earned the school’s 19th NCAA Tourney berth in the past 21 years and will compete in the NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional this week in Oklahoma. The Bulldog men’s squad reached the semifinal round at the league championships for the fifth consecutive time and captured the program’s third title under the current format since 2019. This season, the Bulldog men placed among the top three teams in tournament action 10 times, including a trio of first-place performances. Stark also led the Bulldog women’s program to an NCAA Tourney appearance this campaign.
