Wildcats Earn Second Straight GLIAC Swimming Weekly Awards Sweep

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its second weekly awards for the swimming and diving season. Northern Michigan freshman Rachel Helm earned GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week accolades, while NMU freshman Lajos Budai captured GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Rachel Helm, Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan freshman Rachel Helm recorded three NCAA B cuts in the 100 freestyle (51.88), 100 breaststroke (1:04.74) and 200 individual medley (2:04.02) in the quad dual meet vs. St. Cloud, Northern State and Minnesota State-Moorhead. Helm broke a pool record in the 100 individual medley (57.90) and school records in the 100 and 200 individual medleys.


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Lajos Budai, Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan freshman Lajos Budai also broke two school records in the dual meet vs. St. Cloud. Budai won both the 50 and 100 freestyle with top times of 21.14 and 46.12 both breaking school records. He also clocked relay splits of 20.73 and 45.96.
