GVSU's Van Noort & Walling Tabbed GLIAC Swimming Athletes of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its eighth weekly awards for the swimming and diving season. Grand Valley State senior Leonie Van Noort earned GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week accolades, while GVSU freshman Ben Walling captured GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors as the Lakers earned a pair of victories at Calvin.

Grand Valley State senior Leonie VanNoort turned in a stellar weekend at the 2016 Calvin Invitational, leading the Lakers to the team title with 1.517 points. VanNoort set a school-record, hit three NCAA DII A cuts and three B cuts in three days of action. Leonie set a GVSU school-record in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:47.15, which was also an NCAA A cut time. VanNoort added an A cut in the 500 free (4:47.80) and B cuts in the 1650 free (16:50.36) and the 200 back (2:00.95).

Grand Valley State sophomore Ben Walling set a pair of school-records and hit two NCAA Division II B cuts as the Lakers claimed the team title at the Calvin Invitational with 1785.5 team points. Walling set a school-record and hit the NCAA B cut in the 50 free (20.21), while recording another school-record and hitting a B cut in the 100 free (43.90).
