SVSU's Francisco & NMU's Roovers Tabbed GLIAC Swimming Athletes of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards for the swimming and diving season. Saginaw Valley State sophomore Wilhelmina Francisco earned GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week accolades, while Northern Michigan sophomore Janne Roovers captured GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Wilhelmina Francisco, Saginaw Valley State

Wilhelmina Francisco set a new SVSU program record in the 3 meter diving event for six dives, posting a mark of 272.85 in finishing first in the team's matchup against Hillsdale and Ashland on Saturday (Jan. 14). Francisco added a top finish in the 1 meter diving event as well, finishing with a six-dive mark of 257.02. The Cardinals claimed victories over both the Eagles and Chargers and return to the pool to host Wayne State Friday (Jan. 20) in the final regular season meet of the season.   


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Janne Roovers, Northern Michigan

Janne Roovers won two events against Wisconsin-Green Bay. Roovers took first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:40.66, finishing five seconds faster than his teammate Jonas Reinhold. Roovers then battled for a victory in the 1,000 freestyle, clocking in at 9:35.13 to edge Wisconsin-Green Bay's Tyler Lustig by just 0:00.27.

Roover also competed in the 400 yard IM and the 400 yard freestyle relay, finishing fourth both times. He accounted for 20 of Northern Michigan's 137 points .
