SVSU's Yap, GVSU's Postmus Capture GLIAC Swimming Weekly Awards

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its seventh weekly awards for the swimming and diving season. Grand Valley State junior Sam Postmus earned GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week accolades, while Saginaw Valley State junior Shaun Yap captured GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Sam Postmus, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior swimmer Sam Postmus has been named the GLIAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week it was announced by the league office. Postmus turned in an outstanding meet as No. 6 Grand Valley State dropped a narrow 151-149 decision to DI foe Ball State. Postmus set pool records en route to winning the 400 IM and 1650 free, won the 200 breast, while also being a part of the 800 free relay that also touched first. Postmus shattered the 1650 free record with a time of 17:18.50, bettering the previous record of 17:43.67. Postmus then bettered her own pool record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:28.55, followed by a win in the 200 breast (2:23.15). The 800 free relay team touched in 7:47.41. 


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Shaun Yap, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley State junior swimmer Shaun Yap had a big weekend for the Cardinals against top mid-major Division I competition at the Cleveland State Invitational. Yap set new program records in the 50 free and 100 free, as well as achieving NCAA Championghip "B" qualifying time standards in the 100 free, 100 breast and 200 breast. He claimed the top spot in the 100 breast and 200 breast and was a part of two relay teams that set new program records in the 200 and 400 free relays.
