Michigan Tech Leads First NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS -- Five schools from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) were revealed inside the top ten of the first NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Midwest Regional Rankings released on Wednesday (Feb. 18). The Michigan Tech Huskies are the top-ranked team in the region with a record of 22-1 and No. 8 in the country with three weeks of action remaining. 

Wayne State, nationally ranked at No. 14, sits in the No. 4 position while Ashland, Grand Valley State and Northern Michigan occupy the 7-8-9 spots, in that order. The top eight teams in the final region rankings will earn bids to the NCAA Tournament beginning Friday, March 13.

The Midwest Region includes schools from the GLIAC, the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). The GLIAC amassed half of the top ten in the initial region rankings with the GLVC earning four teams while Cedarville represents the GMAC at No. 10.
