SVSU's Wending Named 2016 D2CCA All-Region Player of the Year; GLIAC Lands Four Honorees
ASHLAND, Ohio—Saginaw Valley State University junior forward Emily Wendling (Flushing, Michigan) has been named the Division II Conference Commissioners' Association Women's Basketball Midwest Region Player of the Year in a vote by the region's sports information directors. The GLIAC landed three first-team honorees and one second-team selection.

Wendling, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, averaged 18.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game to lead the Cardinals to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time since the 1992-93 campaign.

She is joined on the All-Midwest Region first team by Lewis University senior forward Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Illinois); Ashland University sophomore forward Andi Daugherty (Fresno, Ohio) and sophomore forward/center Laina Snyder (Millersburg, Ohio); and Bellarmine University junior forward Sarah Galvin (Hendersonville, Tennessee).

Brawner-Henley, the 2014 and 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, is earning first-team All-Midwest Region honors for the third straight year. She averaged 20.1 points and a GLVC-best 11.8 rebounds per game in 2015-16. This is the first All-Region honor for Daugherty, Snyder, and Galvin.

Players listed on the All-Midwest Region first team advance to the national ballot for All-America consideration.

The Division II Conference Commissioners' Association All-Midwest Region second team consists of Drury University senior guard Annie Armstrong (Springfield, Missouri); Ursuline College sophomore forward Laney Lewis (Lynchburg, Ohio); University of Indianapolis senior guard Princess German (Gary, Indiana); Lewis freshman forward Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wisconsin); and Northwood University junior forward Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns, Michigan).

This marks the second straight year that German, the GLVC's leading scorer with 21.4 points per game, and Armstrong have collected second-team All-Midwest Region accolades. Lewis was the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year after averaging 12.9 points and 10.9 rebounds per game.

The NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament championship game, which features the No. 4 seed Drury versus the No. 7 seed Grand Valley State University, is slated for Monday at 7 p.m. (EDT) in Ashland, Ohio.
