BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly women's soccer awards after the fifth weekend of competition. Grand Valley State junior forward Gabriella Mencotti earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades for the second consecutive week, while Ferris State freshman goalkeeper Grace Kraft collected GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Gabriella Mencotti, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State junior forward Gabriella Mencotti had a stellar week for the Lakers, scoring six goals and adding two assists in a pair of weekend victories on the way to 14 points across the two games. First, Mencotti delighted the Laker's program record crowd of 2,893 people on Friday night with a career high nine points, scoring four goals and assisting on a fifth in the 10-0 victory over Tiffin. Then, Mencotti scored a brace of goals and notched an assist in Sunday's 5-0 victory over Ashland, and now leads the GLIAC in total goals (12) and points (31) and is second in assists (7) behind teammate Marti Corby.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Grace Kraft, Ferris State
Ferris State University freshman goalkeeper Grace Kraft was perfect on the week as she did not allow a goal in 200 minutes of action for the Bulldogs. Kraft recorded 15 total saves in posting the two shutouts as FSU battled to a scoreless double-overtime tie against unbeaten Ashland on Friday (Sept. 30) before topping Tiffin 1-0 on Sunday (Oct. 2) at Top Taggart Field. The Bulldog rookie notched eight saves in Friday's outing against the Eagles in 110 minutes before coming up with seven saves in Sunday's victory. She had a 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 goals against average for the week.
