SVSU's Garcia Selected GLIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its women's tennis weekly awards following the fifth week of the regular season. Saginaw Valley State senior Ana Pico Garcia claimed GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors.


ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Ana Pico Garcia, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley State senior Ana Pico Garcia and her doubles partner Shea Donahue beat Ashland's No. 1 Doubles pair by a score of 8-3 on Saturday. She then moved up to the #1 Singles slot for Saginaw Valley and defeated Ashland’s No. 1 Meghann Fitzpatrick in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. This gave Garcia her second win of the day. The two wins led the Lady Cardinals to an 8-1 rout of Ashland. Garcia and Donahue paired once again to beat Walsh's No. 1 Doubles, 9-7. She finished the contest in singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Walsh's No. 2 Mercedes Fernandez. The Lady Cardinals went on to defeat Walsh 7-2 on Sunday.
