Six GLIAC Basketball Teams Punch Ticket to NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A total of six Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men and women’s basketball teams punched tickets to the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament.

For the Division II Women’s Basketball tournament, all eight teams within the region will travel to one site for first-round, semifinal and final competition at the regional level. First-round games will be played March 13, semifinal games March 14 and the regional championship will be played March 16. The regional champions will advance to the NCAA Women’s Elite Eight March 24, 25 and 27 at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and Sioux Falls Sports Authority will host the Elite Eight.

On the women’s side, Michigan Tech grabbed the No. 1 seed after capturing their seventh GLIAC title with a 68-52 win over Ashland Sunday afternoon. As the No. 1 seed, the Huskies will host all eight teams in the region.  Michigan Tech, who improved to 16-0 at home and 27-2 overall, will host No. 8 Cedarville.

For the third time in four seasons and fifth time overall, No. 5 Ashland will square off against No. 4 University of Southern Indiana. Rounding out the GLIAC teams is No. 6 Wayne State, who will have to play No. 3 Drury.

For the men, seven of the regional tournaments, consisting of eight teams each, will be conducted March 14, 15 and 17 at regional sites. The West regional will be conducted March 13, 14 and 16. The eight regional champions will advance to the quarterfinals in conjunction with the 2015 NCAA Division II Men’s Elite Eight at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

No. 4 Lake Superior State will face off once again with No. 4 Ferris State in a rematch of Sunday's GLIAC Tournament Championship game at top-seeded Bellarmine. The Lakers fell to the Bulldogs 87-82 in the GLIAC Championship game on Sunday.

Michigan Tech grabbed the No. 6 seed, posting an overall record of 19-8. The Huskies will play No. 3 University of Indianapolis.
