KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Ferris State Bulldogs are ranked 19th in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Rankings. FSU is the lone Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference school to appear the poll, while Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State are currently receiving votes.
Ferris State is off to a perfect 8-0 start in the conference and 12-2 overall after home victories over Malone (82-65) and Walsh (77-62). The Bulldogs are tied with Saginaw Valley for the best GLIAC record at 8-0 in the North.
Thanks to upsets that claimed one-half of the remaining undefeated teams in NCAA Division II last week – including the second- and third-ranked teams – a significant shuffle has taken place in the latest NABC/Division II rankings as conference play is now in full force.
West Liberty held onto the top spot once again this week, but losses by Colorado-Colorado Springs and Tarleton State have vaulted Lincoln Memorial to the No. 2 spot in the rankings and a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference teams – Indianapolis and Bellarmine – to third and fourth prior to their meeting Thursday in Indianapolis.
California Baptist begins the second 10 at No. 11, followed by Minnesota State-Moorhead, Azusa Pacific, Angelo State and UNC Pembroke.
Indiana (Pa.) moved up to No. 16 in the new poll, while Metro State fell seven spots to 17th after the loss Saturday. Mount Olive and Ferris State both moved up six spots to 18th and 19th, respectively, while Newberry returns to the top 25 to complete the top 20.
This week's final five teams are Minnesota State, Wisconsin-Parkside – making their poll debut this season on the strength of a 12-1 record – St. Edward's, BYU-Hawaii and Central Missouri.
The four remaining undefeated teams are among the top five nationally in the new poll – West Liberty, Lincoln Memorial, Indianapolis and Colorado School of Mines.
The next poll will be released Jan. 20.
