WSU's Hatzigeorgiou and Fitzpatrick earn GLIAC baseball weekly honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its 12th and final weekly baseball awards of the 2023 baseball season. Wayne State swept the honors, with freshman third baseman/designated hitter Tony Hatzigeorgiou earning player of the week accolades and senior righthander Karter Fitzpatrick receiving pitcher of the week recognition.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tony Hatzigeorgiou, Wayne State

Tony Hatzigeorgiou (Oxford, Mich.) was named GLIAC Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday. Hatzigeorgiou went 7-for-11 (.636 batting average) at the plate with three multi-hit games, a run scored, an RBI and two doubles.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Karter Fitzpatrick, Wayne State

Karter Fitzpatrick (Monroe, Mich.) was named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season and sixth time in his career on Monday. Saturday against Davenport, Fitzpatrick went the distance for the seventh time this season, which leads the league, while picking up his second shutout of the spring. The senior right-hander improved to 9-1 while giving up six hits with only one walk and nine strikeouts on just 79 pitches.
