Grand Valley's Bartels, and Davenport's Wallis Claim GLIAC Swimming Athlete of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the first weekly awards of the new swimming and diving season. Grand Valley St.  junior Moritz Bartels earned GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week accolades, while Davenport freshman Emma Wallis captured GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week honors.


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Moritz Bartels - Grand Valley St.

Grand Valley State junior Moritz Bartels has been named the GLIAC Swimmer of the Week for his performance at the CSCAA Open Water Collegiate Championships held in Lawrence, Kansas on Lone Star Lake.  Bartels claimed a first-place finish with a time of 58:45 on the 5K course, leading GVSU to the 2019 CSCAA Open Water Collegiate Championship with a team score of 22.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Emma Wallis - Davenport

In her first ever collegiate meet, Emma Wallis helped lead Davenport to a season-opening win at Hillsdale, 160.5-133.5. Wallis won both the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.45 and the 1000 free with a school-record mark of 10:39.50, nearly 20 seconds faster than the previous program best. The South African native also placed third in the 200 back as she touched the wall in 2:13.47.
