LSSU's Osmond and DU's Vandeleur honored as GLIAC Tennis Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its seventh tennis weekly awards for the 2023 campaign. Lake Superior State senior Aaron Osmond was named GLIAC Men's Player of the Week while Davenport freshman Skye Vandeleur earned women's player of the week honors.


MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Aaron Osmond, Lake Superior State

Senior Aaron Osmond (Cheltenham, U.K.) helped lead his team to a 4-3 victory over the Michigan Tech Huskies to open conference play on Sunday with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 doubles position after teaming up with Maxence Hamon (Montreal, Quebec) to propel the Lakers to a sweep of doubles action and the early advantage in the match overall. He would then go on to win the No. 1 singles match in straight sets by a score of 6-3, 7-6(5) after coming back from down 0-5 in the second set. This marks Osmond’s second GLIAC weekly honors of the season.


WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Skye Vandeleur, Davenport

Davenport freshman Skye Vandeleur helped the Panthers to a GLIAC-opening win over Saginaw Valley State, 4-1, on Saturday. She teamed with Hermon Mikael for a 6-1 win at two doubles and also pulled out a three-set win at three singles over Johanna Michahelles. She rallied down one set to win the next two sets for a result of 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Vandeleur now has a 12-7 record in doubles this season and five singles wins.
