FSU's O'Connell, WSU's Wagner Claim GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its first weekly awards of the 2021 GLIAC volleyball season. Ferris State senior Katie O'Connell earned GLIAC Volleyball North Player of the week honors, while Wayne State junior Taylor Wagner was awarded GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolades. 


 NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Katie O'Connell, Ferris State

Ferris State University senior All-American Katie O'Connell led the Bulldogs in their first action of the year at home against Northern Michigan this past weekend. For the weekend, O'Connell notched 30 kills with 46 digs, nine total blocks and three service aces as FSU posted a 1-1 mark. The senior standout notched 19 kills and 17 digs to lead FSU to a thrilling 3-2 win over the Wildcats on Friday and then came back with 11 kills and a match-high 29 digs in Saturday's 3-1 setback. She hit .333 in the opening match of the weekend and averaged 3.33 kills and 5.11 digs per set on the weekend.

 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK -Taylor Wagner, Wayne State

Redshirt junior Taylor Wagner (St. Joseph, Mich. / Lakeshore) powered Wayne State to a pair of season-opening sweeps at Purdue Northwest.  She led the Warriors with 15 kills and a .400 hitting percentage on Thursday to go with six digs and two blocks.  On Friday, Wagner notched a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high 14 digs, while hitting .375.  It is the second weekly GLIAC award of her career.
