NMU's Smith, DU's Webb Claim GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its second weekly awards of the 2021 GLIAC volleyball season. Northern Michigan freshman Jacqueline Smith, while Davenport sophomore Emmy Webb was awarded GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolades.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jacqueline Smith, Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan University volleyball freshman Jacqueline Smith is the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Smith led the Wildcats with 37 kills last weekend, with an average of 4.63 kills per set. She also added 24 digs and three services aces for NMU. The freshman notched 22 kills against Saginaw Valley State in match one and 15 kills in the second. She hit at a .348 clip in the opening match and .211 in the second. The Wildcats host Parkside in Vandament Arena on Friday and Saturday in a GLIAC series. The first match is set to begin at 7 p.m. and the second will feature a 2 p.m. first serve.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Emmy Webb, Davenport

Davenport's sophomore middle hitter, Emmy Webb, was named GLIAC South Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday. The honor comes after Webb hit .583 with 23 kills and only two errors on 36 swings in a pair of three-set sweeps over Purdue Northwest, the Panthers' first two wins of the season. The Rockford native started her week by breaking the Davenport record for hitting percentage in a single match (minimum 20 attempts) when she hit an absurd .773 with 17 kills and not a single error on 22 attacks. That effort marked just the second instance in school history in which a Panther hit at least .700 in a single match with at least 20 attempts. Webb then followed that up with six more kills and a .286 hitting clip on Saturday.
