SVSU's O'Horo, GVSU's Gilchrist and WSU's Milovanski earn GLIAC football player of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 11 of the 2023 football season. Saginaw Valley State sophomore quarterback Mike O'Horo was selected as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Grand Valley State junior defensive tackle Jack Gilchrist was honored as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week and Wayne State junior kicker Griffin Milovanski was named GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mike O'Horo, Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley State sophomore quarterback Mike O'Horo set a career mark in passing with 300 yards through the air in a 38-21 road win over Michigan Tech. He was 24-of-30 passing with two touchdown passes while adding another on the ground in the winning effort. O'Horo accounted for 343 yards of offense, helping to assure the Cardinals of a winning season. 


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jack Gilchrist, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior defensive tackle Jack Gilchrist turned in an outstanding performance for #2 Grand Valley State as they defeated #16 Davenport 38-0 in the GLIAC Championship game. Gilchrist tallied four tackles, 2.0 QB sacks (-3), 2.0 tackles for loss (-3), forced a fumble and recovered a fumble that led to 10 points. The Laker defense limited Davenport to 51 yards of total offense (17 rushing yards and 34 passing) and two first downs on 28 plays in the Panthers' first nine drives. Gilchrist is an important piece of a defensive line that keys the Lakers' rushing defense that ranks second on the nation (51.6 ypg) and leads the nation in team QB sacks (45).


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Griffin Milovanski, Wayne State

Wayne State junior placekicker Griffin Milovanski was 4-of-5 on field goals with his only miss being wide right on a 55-yard attempt. He made three field goals over 40 yards (42 and twice from 48 yards). Milovanski set a WSU single-season record with 16 field goals, and became just the third WSU kicker with four field goals in a game in the last 43 seasons. Eight of his made field goals this season were at least 40 yards.
