DU's Harris and Peck, MTU's Wyble named GLIAC football players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 4 of the 2023 football season. Davenport Panthers earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, with redshirt junior running back Myren Harris and junior defensive lineman Geemontae Peck being honored, respectively. Michigan Tech received GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second-straight week, with kicker Drew Wyble receiving recognition.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Myren Harris, Davenport

Davenport redshirt junior running back Myren Harris rushed for over 100 yards for the second straight game in a 55-27 win over William Jewell. He carried 12 times for 129 yards including a school-record, 75-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to salt away the win. The 75-yard run was three yards better than the previous longest run by Kyshawn Richards in 2022. Harris also caught two passes for 14 yards. In addition, Harris threw a 33-yard touchdown pass with DU leading 28-27.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Geemontae Peck, Davenport

Davenport junior defensive lineman Geemontae Peck was a dominant force on the interior defensive line in DU's 55-27 win over WIlliam Jewell. He finished with five tackles including three tackles for loss, two sacks, and four quarterback hurries. The defense yielded just 218 total yards and 32 of those came on the ground. WJC was also just 5-for-16 on third down.


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Drew Wyble, Michigan Tech

Junior kicker/punter Drew Wyble accounted for 10 points for the Huskies in their 34-31 comeback victory against Upper Iowa. He went two-for-two in field goals hitting a career-high 49 yard field goal along with a 30 yard field goal to solidify the win and help Michigan Tech to its best start since the 2015 season. Wyble also was perfect on extra points, making all four attempts. On the season, Wyble leads the conference with 25 points accounted for and his 49-yard field goal is best in the GLIAC. This is the second-consecutive week that the Huskies have claimed the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
