GLIAC -- Second-seeded Grand Valley State will continue its postseason journey on Saturday, when the Lakers host No. 3 Pittsburg State in a second round game at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
GVSU opened Division II National Championship play last weekend with a 21-14 first-round win over GLIAC rival Ferris State. The Lakers have been battle-tested in 2023, facing seven ranked opponents, posting a 6-1 record. Grand Valley State (10-1) is undefeated at home this season, going 7-0, and is 24-5 all-time in home playoff games.
Pittsburg State (11-1), co-champion of the MIAA, is the third seed in the Midwest Region. The Gorillas advanced to the second round of the playoffs by defeating GLVC champion, 35-14.
Pittsburg State's lone loss of the year was a 31-30 late-season loss to MIAA foe No. 23 Missouri Western. The Gorillas defeated No. 20 Emporia State, 33-25, on Oct. 7, their only win over a ranked opponent during the regular season.
Saturday's postseason contest is the first all-time meeting between the Lakers and the Gorillas.
