Ferris State's Anderson and Northwood's Nelson receive GLIAC Women's Basketball Players of the Week awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following Week 2 of the women's basketball season. Ferris State redshirt senior guard Adrienne Anderson received GLIAC North Division Player of the Week recognition, while Northwood sophomore center Alana Nelson was selected as GLIAC South Division Player of the Week. 


NORTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Adrienne Anderson - Ferris State

Ferris State University senior guard Adrienne Anderson (Romulus, Mich.) led the Bulldogs to three consecutive wins on a long road trip to Illinois this past week as FSU stretched its winning streak to four consecutive games. The Bulldog senior tallied 43 points with nine assists, nine steals and eight rebounds in the stretch, averaging 14.3 points along with three assists, three steals and 2.7 rebounds per game. Overall, she shot 40% from the floor and made five three?s while going eight-of-10 (80%) at the line. Anderson had 20 points, three assists and two steals in a 85-77 road win at Lewis before coming back with 12 points and four steals in a road win at Quincy on Friday. She finished the stretch with 11 points, five assists, three steals and three boards in a decisive 72-32 win over McKendree on Saturday in only 22 minutes of action.


SOUTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alana Nelson - Northwood

Sophomore center Alana Nelson (Springport, Ohio) scored a GLIAC season-high 29 points in Northwood's overtime victory at Indianapolis. She carried the NU offense at the start of the game, scoring 18 of the team's first 21 points while making the team's first five field goals. Northwood rallied from a 14-point first half deficit to earn the comeback win over the Greyhounds. Nelson currently leads the GLIAC in scoring at 20.3 points per game.
