Ashland's Bittengle, Saginaw Valley's Dunn Earn Weekly League Accolades

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 5 of the 2017 women's soccer season. Ashland senior forward Morgan Bittengle earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Saginaw Valley junior defender Samantha Dunn claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Morgan Bittengle, Ashland

Ashland senior forward Morgan Bittengle scored three goals in three games last week, netting game-winners in the two GLIAC games on the weekend. She scored the first goal in a 2-1 over Notre Dame (Ohio) on Tuesday at home. Bittengle scored an overtime game-winner to beat Davenport in Grand Rapids, Mich., 3-2, on Friday. She also had the game-winner in a 4-0 win at Purdue Northwest on Sunday to stretch the Eagles' winning streak to four. Bittengle moved to third on AU's all-time scoring list with 40 goals.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Samantha Dunn, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley junior defender Samantha Dunn had a stellar week for the Lady Cardinals, leading the back row while registering a pair of clean sheets while going 1-0-1. SVSU didn't allow a single shot on goal in Friday's 1-0 shutout victory over Michigan Tech and the team followed with another shutout in Sunday's 0-0 draw with Northern Michigan.
