Four GLIAC teams receive bids to NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship

GLIAC -- Ferris State, Michigan Tech, Grand Valley State and Wayne State earned berths to and will represent the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in the 2021 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship, the NCAA Division II Volleyball Committee announced during the selection show on Monday evening.

Ferris State (25-4), the GLIAC Tournament champions, received the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region. Ferris State will serve as hosts of the regional, welcoming seven other teams to Big Rapids for matches from Dec. 2-4. The Bulldogs will open NCAA postseason play against eighth-seeded Rockhurst (20-11). 

Ferris State, which has won 20 straight matches and is ranked 23rd in this week's AVCA poll, is making its 10th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and will host regional action for the third time in the past six years.

Michigan Tech (24-6), the GLIAC regular season champions, is the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region. The Huskies, led by 2021 GLIAC Player and Offensive Player of the Year Anna Jonynas, will face conference foe, the No. 7 seed, Wayne State (20-8). Nationally ranked 20th by the AVCA, Michigan Tech will be making make its fourth straight and 12th all-time appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship. 

Guided by GLIAC Coach of the Year Tim Koth, Wayne State is in the championship field of 64 for the first time since 1994 and for the third time in program history.

Grand Valley State (17-9) is the Midwest Region's sixth seed and will meet No. 3 Hillsdale (27-4) in the first round.
